The Town of Andes 2009 Organizational Meeting, along with the regular monthly Board meeting, will take place on Monday, January 12th at 12:30 pm at Town Hall.

Nature played “Trick or Treat” on the unsuspecting residents of Andes, dumping 6 inches to 2 feet of heavy, wet snow in the village and surrounding hills. A “treat” for students who got “snow days”; a “trick” for adults with slick roads, fallen trees, broken branches, and power and telephone outages. The storm affected most of Delaware County, which was not ready for this type of storm in October.

So many people have expressed sadness at the disappearance of two popular shops and their proprietors. At 72 Main Street, there is no longer a Mercantile or a Brooke’s Variety, and those stores and their offerings will be missed. But the good news is that the spaces will not be vacant.

In Julie McCollister’s poem, You Know You’re in Andes When, the zinger is, “when your cell phone says, ‘No Service Available.’ ” That may change in the first quarter of next year, according to Town Supervisor, Marty Donnelly.
