By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D,
We have received approval from the New York State Education Department to move forward with our Capital Building Project to do the necessary alterations and repairs to our main building. Bids were opened on February 1st and we hope to soon be able to award contracts and hope for work to begin during the summer of 2019.
Work on our front bridge project came to a standstill when the temperatures dropped. Once Spring arrives and the temperature rises, we are excited that work will begin once again and that our front entryway will be completed soon. We are looking forward to a ribbon-cutting ceremony once the project is completed.
During the last few months, members of our Drama Club have been busy preparing for their next production “The Wizard of Oz” which will be presented on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th at 7 pm. We’re excited and hope you will all come out and support our students and all the hard work that goes into these productions.
Children in grades PreK – 6 have been enjoying going to Plattekill Ski Center on Fridays for a day of skiing. This is a great chance for the little ones to learn to ski and enjoy the snow. We would like to thank everyone for the donations to our Elementary Ski Club, which helps lower the cost to families. Members of our High School Ski Club have also been enjoying skiing at several of the area slopes on the weekends. They would like to thank everyone who supported their recent fundraiser.
The third quarter began on February 4th. On February 13th, nearly 60% of our 5-12 students were celebrated at the Academic Recognition assembly for meeting requirements for Honor, High Honor or Superintendent’s List during the 2nd quarter. Etta Newbold (Kdg.), Lykah DePierro (1st grade), Lacey Green (2nd grade), Duncan Foster-Allen (3rd grade) and Grace Nichols (4th grade) were also named Student of the Quarter for their grade level. They all received certificates and a coupon for free ice cream in the school cafeteria.
We are proud to announce that James Camuti, Rachel Masterson, Christian Bauer and Leandra Edelson are the newest members of the Andes Central School J.D. Frisbee Chapter of the National Honor Society. The induction ceremony was held on Friday, February 15th. Congratulations to these newest members!
