MOUNTAINEER TRACKS — April 2018

By Robert L. Chakar, Jr., Ed.D., Superintendent

Our Drama Club presented “Legally Blonde” on March 9th, 10th, & 11th. Our students and staff did a wonderful job with the presentation. I would like to thank Elaine Peck, Kellie Daino, Lisa Valkavich and Sharon Tucker for their hard work and long hours to make this production possible. I would also like to thank the parents of our Drama Club students for their patience in dealing with the crazy schedule and long hours during rehearsals.

As Andes moves through the month of March and into April, the Board of Education has been working diligently in finalizing a school budget for the community to vote on in May. As you may recall, the term “2% tax levy,” is really a “2% adjusted school tax levy.” Meaning, the amount of money that a school can request is based on an 8-step formula unique to its district. Currently, under the Governor’s levy limit, and under a simple majority vote, Andes will be allowed to request of its community a tax levy increase of 2.24%.

As we finalize our budget request to the community, we are faced with State Aid funding similar to years past. As always, your suggestions, questions, or comments are always appreciated. Kindly feel free to contact my office at 676-3166 ext. 103. At Andes, our community of learners thanks you for your continued support of our children.

Lastly, due to our limited enrollment in our PreK program, we will not be hosting it for the 2018-2019 school year. This program will be revisited next year for its feasibility.~
