LIBRARY NOTES – March 2017

By Pamela West-Finkle

Snow, snow and more snow! This winter has been harder than most in recent years, so to help combat your cabin fever, the Andes Library has expanded its movie collection to include many popular television and cable shows. For music buffs, we have also added Ken Burns’ documentary on Jazz. We have lots of new additions, so in between snow storms, stop by to see what satisfies your marathon movie fix.

Speaking of movies, March’s movie night at the library will be held Thursday, March 9th at 7 pm. We will be showing a film, starring Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, and Kate Hudson. It is based upon the true story of the Deepwater Horizon explosion, one of the greatest man-made disasters in U.S. history and how brave men and women risked everything to lead others to safety.

Tax season is upon us and I have received some phone calls asking for tax forms. Because so many forms are available online, the state and federal government are now requiring us to order the forms, so I plan to have some on hand soon. If you do not want to wait for the forms, I can help guide you through the process of finding and printing the forms and instructions you need online as part of our computer and internet literacy program offerings. You can schedule an appointment with me for one-on-one time or feel free to stop in at 2 pm on Mondays for a walk-in group session. If you can’t make it to the library, I can also offer some technical assistance over the phone for any of your computer or internet questions.

With Spring around the corner, we are excited that our Andes Central School PreK and Kindergarten classes will be returning at 1 pm every other Monday starting in mid-March. Also, remember our story and music hour for toddlers on Wednesdays at 11 am, and local children are always welcome to come after school Mondays and Tuesdays for writing/research help or to play one of our unplugged games. Our third Thursday Italian Circle also starts up again in March after a three month hiatus.

If there’s a program you would like to see at our library, or if you have book or movie suggestions, please let me know via phone at 845-676-3333 or email an.ill@4cls.org. ~
