CHILDREN’S HEALTHY SNACK PROGRAM — June 2014

By Tom Joyce

The Andes Food Bank, in association with Andes Central School, is piloting an initiative to help stretch the family budget and promote healthy eating habits among the children of Andes.

Thanks to Superintendent Chakar, Food Bank coordinators Joi Brundege and Wyva Hasselblad and volunteers Buffy Calvert, Bev Travis and Bob Lidsky, the program has been a great success. The Food Bank has provided over 200 lunch bags full of a variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, raisins and a granola bar to all pre-k through grade 2 children in Andes Central School on Friday afternoons since the program’s inception in April.

We have received generous donations from Freshtown, Price Chopper and Woody’s Country Kitchen but the bulk of our funding comes from the community. If you are able to contribute to this important children’s resource, your help would be greatly appreciated.  Tax-deductible donations can be sent to:

Writing “ACS” in the memo line of your check will insure that the donation goes to the Children’s Initiative.

Thanks for any help you can give us. ~
