On Saturday, May 11th, the members of the Andes Fire Department gathered at the Fire Hall for their annual awards dinner. Following the meal, department president Bill Wagner honored a number of the volunteers.
Four retiring members were presented with plaques and placed on the honorary list in appreciation of their years of dedicated service to the department and the community. Shayne Moshier leaves the department with 23 years of service, Nick Burton with 20 years, Jim Vandenberg with 15 years and Mary Vandenberg with 7 years. They surely leave behind some big boots to fill.
Years of Service awards were also presented to two current members. John Ruchar received a watch in recognition of his 25 years of service, while Janice Winner earned a 15-year pin.
Volunteer Vanna Masterson, a relative newcomer to the department, was honored as the Firefighter of the Year.
A hearty congratulations to all the award recipients, and to all the members of our fire department and emergency squad who give so much of themselves to ensure the safety of their neighbors. Andes is a better community because of them. ~
