Most everyone has caught a glimpse of the film crew and actors shooting “We Are What We Are” all over the region through the month of June. It is a remake for North American audiences of “Somos Lo Que Hay,” a drama/horror film made in Mexico in 2010, an entry at the Cannes Film Festival, directed and written by Jorge Michel Grau.
Barbara has seen them setting up on Russell Hill Road near a large farmhouse where much of the action takes place. A mini trailer park was constructed there for some of the rural scenes. They shot a huge Festival scene in Halcottsville; other scenes were filmed in Fleischmanns. On June 7th the technical crew and their lighting and camera equipment took up a considerable portion of the sidewalk in front of Woody’s, which closed for the day to allow extensive, all-day shooting in their space. Actors and extras in costume, and various crew members were in and out of Paisley’s seeking diversion during their waits. Late in the afternoon a scene was shot at Hogan’s. Rumor has it that Don Hogan played a butcher.
Riley Keough (Elvis’ granddaughter) acts alongside Bill Sage, Julia Garner, and Wyatt Russell (a son of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell). Nick Damici co-wrote the new script with Jim Mickle, the director. Memento Films International (MFI) of France is producing the film.
