Nineteen seniors gathered at the Andes Fire Hall on November 17, 2011 at noon for their monthly lunch and meeting. At 1:00 pm President Jane Berghammer called the meeting to order. Treasurer’s and secretary’s reports were read and accepted. Gerald Norris reported on the Senior Council meeting as follows: The Office of the Aging received a $15,000 grant to open an adult day care center in Walton for functioning adults who live in Delaware County. This would allow caregivers to have time for personal business and also give them a break. The council is concerned that the senior bus is not being utilized. They plan to revise the schedule, then publicize it in the Dispatch and through senior clubs. HEAP benefits have been cut in half. The computer training at the ECenter was a huge success with full classes. Therefore they are planning additional sessions. A pancake breakfast is scheduled for March 3rd or March 10th, 2012. A beautiful quilt has been donated to the senior council who plan to have a quilt raffle which would run from now into 2012.
Senior Trip–Car pool to see Cinderella at State University at Oneonta on Sunday, December 11 at 2 pm, weather permitting. Cost per person is $22.00. Call Jane Berghammer a few days before December 11th if you would like to go. Our senior Christmas party will be on our regular meeting day, December 15 at the Andes Fire Hall. The highlight of the party is our Yankee Swap so come along. Bring a $5.00 gift for the swap. A sign up sheet for the December 15th party was passed around; those planning to attend were asked to write down what their dish to pass would be. Marie Gladstone will be cooking turkey and gravy. The others always bring something delicious, so have a light breakfast. Meeting adjourned at 1:20 pm. As usual everyone helped “do the dishes”.
