“It always snows on your birthday,” my husband said as he opened the curtains in our living room on the first Saturday in April. “Did I tell you I heard peepers?”

Spring is here at last but this year my garden will have to be self-sufficient. I will be having surgery on my spine, where the nerves have been causing pain in my right leg and keeping me from being able to do what I love to do.
